Over 700 smart electric radiators bring sustainable heat to the City Dox district

Alongside the Brussels-Charleroi canal in Anderlecht, the brand new City Dox district accommodates business spaces, retail areas and residential buildings. In the latter, a conscious decision was made to integrate a complete sustainable heating solution with our smart electric radiators. A combination of our Yali Digital Plus radiators and Flores electric towel warmers, all controllable with our Unisenza Plus app, ensures that the residents of over 170 apartments can enjoy indoor climate comfort at all times.

City Dox

City Dox is a new district located at the gateway to Brussels. It positions itself as a sustainable, forward-looking project that aims to be respectful of nature and its occupants. Within the district there is, for example, a focus on water and waste management and 2,800 m2 to accommodate productive activities such as the development of circular models for local production and consumption.

The residential buildings within the district include both studios and apartments with 1 to 3 bedrooms, all featuring high energy performance. The units are, for example, fitted with double-glazed windows as well as an individual double-flow ventilation system that allows residents to manage the renewed supply of air while avoiding heat loss.

To create a sustainable heating system in line with the district’s values, our Yali Digital Plus radiators and Flores electric towel warmers were selected to be installed in 172 apartments. Krzysztof Kamycki, Product Director Valves, Controls and Connectivity at Purmo Group, says: “We are happy to provide a complete solution for this project. This allows for a fully aligned system and an optimal performance of the individual components. Moreover, all the heat emitters can be connected to the Unisenza Plus gateway that is installed in each apartment. That way the devices can be linked to our intuitive Unisenza Plus app so that residents have a single point of access from which they can control their entire heating system. This is not only very user-friendly, but also makes the system extra sustainable as it allows users to easily optimise their energy consumption.”

Future-proof heating with Yali Plus smart electric radiators

In this project a total of 562 Yali Digital Plus electric radiators are integrated. These radiators in themselves are already quite sustainable as they are filled with biodegradable vegetable oil and convert every watt of electricity into heat, without generating any energy waste. Moreover, they can easily be powered by electricity generated from a renewable energy source, such as the solar panels (PV) that are integrated in the City Dox project.

Furthermore, the radiators in our Yali Plus range are equipped with a convenient thermostat that offers precision temperature setting and allows for optimal connectivity. “Residents can of course opt to set the temperature on the individual radiators themselves. However, since the Yali Plus thermostats are linked to the Unisenza Plus gateway, they can also regulate them remotely via the Unisenza Plus app on their smartphone or tablet. Or the radiators can even be voice controlled when linked to a home automation system such as Alexa or Google Home,” explains Yann Apruzzese, Global Product Manager Electrical Radiators at Purmo Group.

In addition, every radiator can be controlled separately, allowing users to save money and minimise energy waste by only heating the rooms they are actually using, rather than heating the entire space. This reduces both the residents’ energy bills and City Dox’ carbon footprint.

Smart electric towel radiators

To ensure sustainable indoor climate comfort in the bathrooms as well, the project also includes 193 of our Flores electric towel warmers. This is a classic among our bathroom radiators as it ensures the room is kept comfortably warm and offers plenty of space for warming and drying towels.

The innovative element in this case is the use of our new eLine controller. This is a new programmable thermostat for towel warmers that can work as a standalone product, but is also compatible with the Unisenza Plus gateway so that the towel warmer can be controlled via the same app as the Yali Plus radiators. This way residents at City Dox have a complete overview of all their heating devices in the app and can see at a glance which radiators are on and which are not.

Additionally, all radiators can be controlled remotely, even without internet access since the Unisenza Plus products are part of a local network. The devices also receive over-the-air updates, so that they can always operate using the latest software versions and product features.

Full-electric heating solution

In light of their sustainability vision, the apartments at City Dox are heated entirely electrically. We are happy that we can help turn this vision into solutions that bring comfort and efficiency on a daily basis.

Krzysztof says: “City Dox is a good example of what we are capable of delivering in terms of electric heating. The system is fully aligned with the building and can be easily adjusted to meet the occupants’ needs and habits. We have not just delivered a product here but an entire heating solution that is a really good fit for this project, where the focus is on sustainable and future-proof building.”

Yann concludes: “We will keep expanding the Unisenza Plus range to eventually include all products that are linked to a controller, including radiators, towel warmers, underfloor heating, etc. This way more and more projects will be able to benefit from a completely aligned heating and cooling solution. At Purmo we are convinced that this is the way forward that combines the best of both worlds: perfect indoor climates that don’t cost the planet’s climate.”
