Comfort on the water: our smart radiators heat houseboats all around the world

Floating along rivers and streams or in coastal harbours, houseboats can be found all over the world. The freedom and beautiful scenic views they provide are appealing to an increasing number of people. Although they might offer reduced living space compared to a standard house, today’s houseboats are certainly not inferior in terms of comfort. Especially La Mare houseboats, as these self-sufficient houses are now equipped with our Yali Digital Plus smart electric radiators, which can be controlled with the Unisenza Plus app for maximum customised comfort.

Modern houseboats

La Mare has been producing houseboats for over 15 years. What started as a hobby, has since grown into a successful business that today produces over 100 houseboats annually. With models ranging from 15 m2 to 49,5 m2, there is a boat for every taste and budget.

Whether small or large, for La Mare it is important that each boat is eco-friendly. Not only do they aim to construct them in a sustainable way, the boats are also designed to be self-sufficient and energy efficient. They are equipped with photovoltaic panels on the roof and/or deck, which provide energy for the use of appliances as well as the fully electric heating system. Excess energy can be stored in the integrated 4.8 kWh lithium-ion batteries and used at a later time.

Cleverfit water distribution system

Five years ago we established a partnership with La Mare when they started using our Cleverfit water distribution system. As their boats float all over the world, they were looking for a dependable system that is robust and easy to install. Tomasz Drygalski from the La Mare plumbing department explains: “We simply can’t afford any leaks or flaws in the system. The Purmo pipes and multilayer fittings offer a sturdy solution. We haven’t had a single problem since we started using the Cleverfit system.”

Sebastian Kamiński, Reginal sales manager at Purmo Poland, adds: “We always try to offer high-quality products that make the installer’s job easier, whether through innovative product design or by providing special tools to assemble the fittings. This way our clients can be sure of watertight and safe pipe connections.”

Smart electric radiators for customised heating

In the spring of 2024 La Mare discovered our Yali Plus electric radiators and the possibility to connect and control them via the Unisenza Plus app. As this fits perfectly with their concept of energy-efficient and self-sufficient homes, they decided to give it a try and have been equipping their boats with this system ever since.

The Yali Digital Plus radiators are installed in the bedroom(s) and the living room, where they serve as the main source of heating. Not only do these electric radiators convert every watt of electricity into heat, they also distribute the heat rapidly and evenly so that the rooms quickly reach the desired temperature.

Moreover, the oil-filled Yali Plus radiators are equipped with a modern thermostat with special regulators and PI-control that adjusts to the outdoor conditions. Piotr Krzemiński, Sales technical support manager at Purmo Poland explains: “If the sun is shining, less heat is needed so the radiator will be gradually switched off to save energy and prevent the rooms from overheating. But if the sun is behind the clouds, we need more heating. So, the electric Yali Plus radiators will gradually provide more heat to reach the right temperature for optimal indoor climate comfort.”

Remote control of smart radiators

Although the Yali Plus radiators have an integrated thermostat that allows for intuitive control on the device, there is also the possibility of remote control. Each of the installed Yali Plus radiators can be connected to the Unisenza Plus gateway and then controlled via the Unisenza Plus app. That way the complete heating system can be controlled from anywhere in the world.

“This is especially valuable for the type of properties we create. Our boats are often used as a short-term rental property. Via the Unisenza Plus system the owner can easily control or grant access to the guests to control the heating system. Or, when owners plan to stay on the boat themselves, they can remotely switch on the heating so the rooms have a pleasant temperature by the time they arrive. And conversely, they can also turn down the radiators again via the app when they are leaving. In the meantime, the application sees to the minimal usage of the valuable electric energy produced by the photovoltaic panels. That’s optimal comfort for our customers and a win for the planet,” says Tomasz Drygalski.
